A joint project between iBET, ITQB-NOVA and CENIMAT-FCT-NOVA received the “Collaborative Research Award Santander/NOVA 2018/2019“, totaling 25000 €, in the Exact Sciences and Engineering research areas. The distinguished team is composed by ITQB-NOVA/iBET researcher Vanessa Pereira and CENIMAT-FCT-NOVA researcher Ana Pimentel.
The focus of the awarded project, “PlaTiNa – Low cost platforms based on Nano-heterostructures of TiO2/WO3 to apply in Photocatalysis”, is to eliminate water contaminants (such as pharmaceuticals and pesticides) in wastewater, groundwater and drinking water, through the development of nanostructures of titanium oxide and tungsten. This nano-heterostructures will be placed on polymeric or glass surfaces and exposed to the presence of compounds to destroy, under solar radiation.
In 2015, another project with iBET collaboration was distinguished with the Santander/NOVA Collaborative Research Award (SANTANDER TOTTA / NOVA University of Lisbon AWARD distinguishes project in the area of Alzheimer’s disease).
The Santander/NOVA Collaborative Research Award aims to distinguish projects developed by junior researchers from NOVA and involving at least two of the schools of the university. This annual prize has already been given to research projects in the fields of Social and Human Sciences, Life Sciences, Exact Sciences and Engineering.

This award was highlighted in several national media channels. Read more here.
